Cam Road
I have a 96 plymouth voyager, that keeps giving crank and cam sensor problems but they are not bad. Ideas?
There are two mechanics suggesting that I get a wiring harness, but it’s $700, I have already spent $2600 trying to fix this van since March. It has had crank and cam sensors, plugs and wires, a new computer, multiple oil and transmission leaks (that it did not have when the garage got it), a starter and a coil. All that happened was it wouldn’t start back up, now it justs cuts out the RPM drops to 0, it chugs out, it will start back up, but you never know when it will do this, at redlights, on the road, sitting in the driveway, or turning. It changes every time, and all the mechanics keep saying is they need sixteen hours and a wiring harness to fix the crank and cam problem.
Hi Tina – It’s time for a different mechanic. $2600.00 is a substantial investment for an 11 year old Voyager that has more problems than you started with I.E. “multiple oil leaks”. Hopefully the work done to date has been satisfactory, or the original problem has now been compunded. If the problem is indeed in the wiring as the 2 mechanics suggest, it does not require the entire wiring harness, but rather a “pin test” on the affected circuits. This test isolates the individual wire(s) causing a problem, and that circuit is then repaired as required. If you plan to invest even more money in this vehicle take it to a reputable Chrysler dealer for service. It will cost more than a garage, but the repairs have a warranty period. I hope this helps. It sound like you have been taken for a “ride” with your vehicle to date.
